There's a digital copy of John Larrance's will written in Randolph County, North Carolina on 22 Sept 1800 with the surname of 'Larrance' written in his own hand and does not include an initial nor middle name. John's father-in-law had the name of Bailey Needham and John's son was named John Bailey Larrance. But John Larrance born in 1725 could not have been given the middle name Bailey since John did not marry his wife Ann/Nancy Needham until around 1762. The original stone pictured in the memorial was probably placed close to the time of John's death and has the surname Larrance etched around the edifice - again with no middle initial.
Descendants somehow incorrectly thought a Private John Lawrence born in 1745 was this John Larrance and submitted incorrect information to the Daughters of the American Revolution. Those same descendants also found a voucher (#2000) for a John Lowrence of Salisbury District in North Carolina. But the John Larrance of this memorial was living in Randolph County, North Carolina during the war and that was then called Hillsborough District.
Using the wrong information about the name and involvement in the Revolutionary War, descendants evidently ordered and placed the later marker.

Buried in the family cemetery on the land he owned near Fork Creek.
