Janie Armstrong Smith was born on December 19, 1903 in Atoka, Indian Territory and passed away on September 26, 1997 in Mustang, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Lewis William Armstrong and Eliza Jacobs Armstrong. She was an original enrollee in the Choctaw nation and was formerly a manager of a boarding house. She was married to Ben Levi Smith in Coalgate. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Lewis and Eliza Armstrong and three brothers, Edmond "Buck" Armstrong, Aaron H. Armstrong and William "Bill" H. Armstrong. Survivors include two sisters, Opal Berci of Yucaipa, California and Hildred Marlow of Atoka; three brothers, Sherman Armstrong of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Virgal Armstrong of Kirkland, Washington and Fred Armstrong of Atoka; numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews and lots of friends who were counted as her extended family.
