Word was received by Mrs. F. MacKinnon
on Friday morning, conveying
the sad intelligence of the death of
her sister, Mrs. A. P. Mitten which
occurred Thursday night, May 8, at
the Pennoyer Sanitarium in Kenosha,
Wis. From early womanhood to the
last years of her life, a victim of ill
health, it is safe to say she passed
half of her life in acute physical suf-
fering, yet she never lost interest in
the members of her old homestead,
but loved to have them about her and
to be with them whenever her feeble
health would permit. Since the death
of her husband three years ago, she
has made her home at the sanitarium
in the hopes of regaining health and
strength in this beautiful rest retreat
on the shores of Lake Michigan. Her
sudden death was a great shock to
her family and was the result of a
stroke of apoplexy, from which she
never rallied.
Mrs. Mitten was born in Green Bay
Wisconsin, October 25, 1864, a daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Hoskinson,
she came to Grand Rapids
when about eighteen years of age,
and as Miss "Bonnie" Hoskinson was
greatly beloved and admired. Possessed
of great personal beauty, with
a sweet, lovable disposition, and unusual
musical talent, she soon became
a great social favorite, naturally cheerful
and with a ready wit and keen appreciation
of humor she loved laughter
rather than tears, and through the
last long years of her life she was patient
and gentle to the end.
She was married in Grand Rapids,
October 19, 1890, to the late Dr. Allen
P. Mitten of Seattle, Wash. Three
children were born to them, of whom
two are living, Robert, a student at
Racine College, and Marion who makes
her home with her aunt, Mrs. E. M.
Platt of Manitowoc...
The funeral services of Mrs. A. P.
Mitten took place, from the Episcopal
church at 12 o'clock Sunday noon
Rev. Fliedner officiating.
