Avalon Vest Faris, 93, a former longtime Arlington resident, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, in Fort Worth after a brief illness. Graveside service: 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, in Llano Cemetery, Llano. Visitation: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at Waldrop-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, Llano. Memorials: The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Meals on Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties, 106 E. Kilpatrick, Cleburne, Texas 76031.
Avalon, the daughter of Harve and Otha Bill Vest, was born in Llano County on Sept. 21, 1918. Avalon attended public schools in Llano and graduated from Llano High School in 1936. She married Wendell Faris on Oct. 12, 1940, in Mason. Avalon was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She was very proud of her entire family, but especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her sister.
Survivors: Daughter, Jo Lowe and husband, David, of Maypearl; son, Vinsen Faris and wife, Pam, of Godley; granddaughter, Wende Upchurch and husband, Owen, of Maypearl; grandson, Gannon Lowe of Maypearl; grandson, Brian Shollenberger and wife, Tara, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
