Rev. Heckman was the longest serving Pastor of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church at 11 & Tilghman Streets in Allentown. He served as Pastor from July 10, 1924 until July 10, 1966.

The Rev. Raymond J. Heckman, D.D., died in Allentown of February 15, 1969. He was born on November 5, 1892 near Hamburg, Pa., son of Elias and Linora Heckman. He was graduated from Kutztown State College in 1913, Muhlenberg College in 1917, and the Philadelphia Seminary in 1920. Muhlenberg College conferred on him an honorary degree. He was ordained by the Ministeruim of Pennsylvania and served Faith, Mt. Penn, and Peace, Reading, 1920-24, and St James, Allentown, from 1924 until his retirement in 1966.
Dr Heckman served on the board of Inner Missions, the Topton Home Board, and was a leader in the establishment of the Muhlenberg Medical Center.
In 1920 he was married to Grace J. Stoudt. She and two daughters, Mary J. Shumberger and Martha A. Nelson survived.
The funeral was held on February 19 in St James Church, Allentown, followed by interment in Laureldale Cemetery, Reading.
