Anton Pedersen History                                                       No Revision Oct 3, 2011

This is a brief history our great-uncle Anton Pedersen based on any information that I could gather from few written records, digital data, pictures, and verbal information that I was able to obtain from any living people.
Clifford Harold Pedersen b1936

Anton Pedersen was born on 16 nov 1875 to Jacob Pedersen  (b 1832, d 1881) and  Maren  Kirstine Kristensen ( b abt 1841  d abt1879)  In Hover, Ringkobing, Denmark.    He was the 8th of 11 children

He was youngest of the four Pedersen brothers who emigrated from Denmark to the USA from abt 1889 through  1896.    His year of immigration was  1894 according to  the 1900 and 1930  USA census records.  He had followed the emigration of his aunt Bodel Pedersen in abt 1878, his brother Karl Nielsen Pedersen in 1889, and his brother Kristen Svendsen Pedersen  in 1889 or 1890, who all lived in the Pleasant View area (Provo, UT). Another brother Jens Pedersen came later.  He first lived in Utah then moved to Idaho later.

Anton was a teacher, scholar, and school administrator during his lifetime.  I believe since he was only 19 years old when he arrived in Utah, that he would have gained his higher education at the BYU Academy close to where all the Pedersen boys lived in Provo, UT.   His brother Karl Nielsen Pedersen (my grandfather) also attended the BYU Academy.  He lived  in Utah approx  3yrs.    He may have traveled to Idaho in the late 1890's to visit his older brother Jens Pedersen who lived in Salem, ID, but would have likely lived in the Provo, UT area to complete his education.  It is also likely that Anton taught school in Utah.  Traveling in those days was by horseback or horse and buggy usually,  However there was some limited rail traffic from Utah into Idaho which could be expensive.

In the year 1899 Anton married his first wife Flora Emma Fowlke  (b 1872 Ut, d 1900 ID) in Provo, Utah . She was the daughter of Frederik Fowlke (b 1843 Eng , d 1905 Lindon UT) and Elizabeth Cook  (b 1847 Eng., d 1910 Lindon, UT).  Shortly after their marriage on 9 aug 1899 they lived in  Chesterfield ID where Anton taught school.

On 07 April 1900 in Chesterfield,  Idaho.  Flora gave birth to their daughter Mary Elizabeth Fowlke Pedersen , but Flora succumbed  the next day on 08 April 1900 from complications.  The baby survived.     Anton made arrangements for his wife's body to be moved back to Pleasant Grove Utah for burial in her family's plot and arranged for his infant child Mary to be taken care of by his mother-in-law Elizabeth Fowlke.

Anton then left Chesterfield ID, traveled and stayed with his older brother Jens Pedersen (a poultry breeder) who had immigrated in 1894 and lived in and had a household in Salem, ID which is near Rexburg, ID. Anton's occupation was teacher in the 1900 Rexburg (Salem) Idaho USA census.

Anton later met and married his second wife Alvilde Josephine  Noren on 3 Jan  1901 in Logan, Utah   (Mormon temple?).  then settled in Salem, ID.

Alvilde was born in Christiana Norway in abt 1870.  She had married Asmund Prestgard in Minnesota in  abt 1890. After returning to Norway she had one son Arnald Torjus Prestgard born 1891, and then her husband died there in Norway. She then emigrated with her son to Idaho before 1900.

Anton and Alvilde's family consisted of:
Anton Pedersen   father
Alvilde Pedersen.  mother

Arnald Torjus Prestgard  Alvilde's son by previous marriage

Mary Elizabeth Fowlke Pedersen.      Anton's daughter by previous marriage who was hastened from Utah.

Then  Anton and Alvilde  had three more children between them:

Amalia (Molly) Noren Pedersen daughter  b  20 June 1902,

Anton John Noren Jacob Pedersen  son b 31 Jan 1910

Kristen J. Pedersen was born to Lillian (Clark) Adams of Pocatello, ID on February 17, 1914. He was adopted by Anton and Alvilde

Anton continued as a teacher and educator in this area of Idaho, later moved to Idaho Falls ID ,and eventually became Superintendent of all schools in Bonneville County, Idaho until his untimely death in 1935.   Anton and his family were all very well known to the other Pedersen brothers and their family's.  Many  pictures exist showing these relationships.

Alvilde  Noren Pedersen died on 24 Nov 1960 at  approx 90 years of age.

Mary Pedersen b 1900 married Wilbur Street on 17 May 1920 .     They had two children Paul A.  Street  b 05 Apr 1923 , d 27 May 1998 , and a stillborn child on 03 Apr 1929 just 5 days before Mary died probably from childbirth complications just the  same as her mother had before her.

Paul  A. Street married Lela Rowberry on 30 Dec 1949.  They had a son James Lee Street b 1954 who died in 1968 in a auto-gravel truck accident in the Firth-Shelly Idaho area. They also had one stillborn unnamed son. Lela Rowberry Street died in 2008.  Paul and Lela are both buried in Shelly Idaho Cemetery. Paul Street was a genealogist contributing much information to the LDS genealogy data base, and his descendants if any , may have more information.

Wilbur Street ( usually called Wid) was from Hoytsville, Summit County, UT but also lived in Park City which is where he became acquainted with all of the Pedersen family and eventually  Mary Pedersen who had traveled from Idaho. Mary and Wid lived in Idaho.   Mary died in 1929 at the age of 29.    Wid  later married Ruth Dredge  in Idaho, then was later divorced.   Wid Street moved back to Utah and died later in 1949 in Salt Lake.  Wid and my uncle Karl N. Pedersen Jr b1898 and uncle Milton pedersen b1900 were  good friends in the  early 1900's.  Wid and  uncle Karl  visited often  during the 1940's in Karl's home at 33 E. Burton ave in South Salt Lake, UT.

Anton John Pedersen b 1910   Lived in Idaho most of his life.   He married Jenny Simpkins on 10 Oct 1936.   Jenny was b May 1911, and d 9 Mar 1988, and was the daughter of Neil Simpkins a lawman, and Della May Ellis Simpkins d Aug 1940.

Anton John Pedersen died On 12 Nov 1949 of   accidental electrocution while on his job working for Arrington Co.  ??   He is buried in Rosehill Cemetery.   He and his wife Jenny had At least one child Donna Jean Pedersen Titanus Cushman Trumble.

Kristen J. Pedersen married Gladys Irene Skow in 1934. They moved to Spokane Valley in 1955 with their family. Kristen died in 2013 and is buried
In the Pines Cemetery in Spokane, Washington

Amalia (Molly)  Pedersen lived  77years dying  on 20 Mar 1979.     I actually met her one time in Idaho Falls on a trip  to Yellowstone National Park with my parents in about 1943.

Molly married three times.
First to William Arthur Hartwell b 1898 Salem, ID who died on 19 Jun 1926 at the age of 28 yrs.    Even though they were only together for just 6 years,  Molly and William had three children, all sons,  who all lived long lives.

They were:
William Vernon Hartwell    b 3 Jan 1921, d 13 Aug 1994.   bur Rosehill cem Id. Falls, ID  age (73 yrs)
He married Ruth Alvina Wison 12 Nov 1943.

Dale Hartwell.  b 05 Oct 1922,  d 07 Jul 1995,  age  (72 yrs).
He married Irene Breeden 23 Jul 1943.

George Alvin Hartwell  b 09 Jul 1924, d 24 Oct 2006,
bur Annis ID     Age (82 yrs)
He married Laura Colan 25 May 1947 had children then div, also Emma Lou Bishop mar and div, also Dorothy J Grover Carter 29 Oct 1986.

Evidently,  Molly then raised her children alone for some 10 yrs after her husbands death which was difficult. In the 1930 census she was living in Monteview, Idaho (Mud Lake) in the household of her deceased husband's brother Joe and father William Hartwell with all her children.  Her oldest son William Vernon Hartwell  at 9 yrs of age also lived at times with his grand parents Anton and Alvide Pedersen  as he is also listed the 1930 census in Idaho Falls , Idaho.

Molly married Mark Davis Bigler on Dec 2,1937 in Blackfoot, Idaho. Mr. Bigler was a Idaho Falls City Engineer. They were later divorced.

Molly then married Leo Hall  (b 1907 Scofield UT,  d 25 Apr 1975) in 1952    They lived in Idaho Falls and were together 23 years having no children.

Molly died and is buried in the same Roseville cemetery in Idaho Falls.  Her name of death record is   Amalia "Molly" Pedersen Hartwell Hall,   while her headstone reads Amalia Hartwell .

Nearly all of the people in this history died and are buried in Idaho.  Many are in the Rosehill cemetery in Idaho Falls, ID.

If we Utah Pedersen's have any blood relatives  through Anton Pedersen in Idaho they would likely  carry the Street or Hartwell last name or be descended from them.

Anton  died on Mar 18, 1935 and is buried in the Rosehill cemetery in Idaho Falls.  At the time of his death he was living at 343 E 11th St. In Idaho Falls, ID. His grave is located  in the North section, block 53, unit 1, space 3.     Other graves adjacent to his are: his wife  Alvilde  Pedersen,  his older brother Kristen Pedersen who had moved from Pleasant View, Utah to Idaho after 1930, and his daughter  Mary Pedersen Street.

The history's for Anton's  3 brothers;  Karl Nielsen Pedersen, Kristen Svendsen Pedersen, and Jens Pedersen is written under their separate titles.

The information contained in this writing is factual and true to the best of my knowledge and memory.  Very little supposition was used.
