Civil War Union Soldier. He served his country during the Civil War as a Private in Company F of the 2nd Maryland Volunteer Infantry Regiment. On December 18, 1861 Pvt. Kuhne got into a fight in a tavern near Camp Carroll with Second Lieutenant J. David Whitson, which resulted in the death of Lt. Whitson. On March 7, 1862 Pvt. Joseph Kuhne had the dubious distinction of being the first of three men executed at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Md.
