Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bemidji, Minnesota with Pastor Matthew Wurm officiating. Visitation was on Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home with a 7 PM prayer service. Visitation was also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Northern Township, Beltrami County, Bemidji, Minnesota. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, Minnesota.
Honorary bearers: Donald and Mabel Emery, Rodney and Amelia Bray, David Jansen, Betty Swartz, Douglas and Adeline Teigland, Robert "Bob" Schaumburg.
Casket bearers: Chad and Stacie Lancaster, Steffan Lancaster, Shane Lancaster, Levi Lancaster, David and Joyce Thompson, Richard "Butch" and Elaine Schaumburg.
Elaine Meyer was born April 1, 1917 to August and Molly (Charlson) Meyer in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Presbytarian Church in East Grand Forks, Minnesota and then was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Missouri Synod. She grew up and attended school through 8th grade in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, She met and married Frank Kluzak on November 26, 1935 in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. In 1942 they purchased land in Northern Township, Beltrami County and built their home, where they established their farm and raised their 2 children. Frank died on May 15, 1974. She met and married Donald Sweeney on January 31, 1976, where they continued to live on the farm. Elaine went to work at Patterson's Clothing in Bemidji doing tailoring for 18 years, retiring in 1974. After retiring she continued to do sewing and tailoring for many of her friends and neighbors. She made many of her own outfits. She loved her vegetable garden doing lots of canning and providing vegetables and produce for the Trinity Lutheran Church rummage sales and fall dinners. She also loved her flower garden raising many flowers and beautiful gladiolas and placing them on the alter at Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and Honorary Member of the Ladies Aid and a member of the Busy Fingers Sewing Circle.
She is survived by her husband, Donald of Bemidji; one son, Duane (Patricia) Kluzak of Bemidji; one grandson, Chad (Stacie) Lancaster of Mason City, Iowa; 3 great-grandsons, Steffan Lancaster, Shane Lancaster and Levi Lancaster of Mason City, Iowa; nieces and nephews and many close friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband, Frank Kluzak; daughter, Judi (Kluzak) Wolff; 2 infant sons at birth; sister, Vivian Bachmann.
