Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. His true name was Michael Burke. He served as a Private in the Union Army in Company D, 125th New York Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on May 12, 1864 at Spotsylvania, Virginia. His citation read "Capture of flag, seizing it as his regiment advanced over the enemy's works. He received a bullet wound in the chest while capturing the flag."
