Was a Anti-Lincoln man who lived in the middle of a very pro-Lincold part of Vermont, So he moved across the border into Quebec Canada in 1863 and passed away in 1864 at age 79 and was buried in the Rose Church Cemetery NE of Stanstead Quebec never to return to his native Vermont. His grave stone reads as follows.(Numerous spelling mistakes on stone have been corrected)
Eleazer Allbee Born in Rockingham Vt. Died in Stanstead Aug. 28th 1864. He went into Voluntary Banishment from his Beloved Native Country, during the Reigning Terror in the Third Year of the Misrule of Abraham the First.
A very unsusual stone to say the least. Photo taken in Canada shortly before his death in 1864.
