Melvin "Hot" Rushing was born on August 19, 1934 in Alsatia, Louisiana and passed away on January 2, 2012 in Lake Providence, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Ola Mae Rushing, great-grandson, Conner Yates, brother, Hubert Rushing, brothers-in-law, O.C. Morgan and Bill DuConge, and nephews, Christopher "DuConge and Johnny Rushing.
Mr. Rushing loved tractors and he farmed for many years. He enjoyed watching western movies and listening to country music. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather. He also was a very kind and generous friend to everyone he met, and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Sara Rushing of Transylvania, LA; daughter, Connie Yates and husband, Rufus of New Iberia, LA; son, James Rushing and wife, Carolyn of Abbeville, LA; four grandchildren, Tara Warner and husband, Paul; Billy Rushing and wife, Kelly; J. R. Rushing; and Brandon Yates and wife, Jamie; three step-grandchildren, Brealand Garrett and wife, Kim; Shannan Guidry and husband, Mike; and Susan Womack and husband, Chris; four brothers, Robert Rushing and wife, Pat of Winnsboro, LA; John Rushing and wife, Rose of Natchitoches, LA; Ed Rushing and wife, Charlotte of Transylvania, LA; and Clifton Rushing and wife, Jo Alice of Union Church, MS; four sisters, Mammie Lee Morgan of Irving, TX; Lucille Du Conge of Hammonds, LA; Patsy Adkerson and husband, Darrell of Monroe, LA; and Katherine Michaelson and husband, Bob of St. Francisville, LA; and a sister-in-law, Annie Lou Lovell of Transylvania, LA; eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
