Mrs. Shipley, a longtime Houstonian, graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1935 and Rice University in 1939. In 1940, she married George Hale Shipley, a Rice graduate with a master's degree from MIT and later became President of Carter Oil and a respected energy consultant. Mrs. Shipley was active in the O.W.L. Literary Society, First Presbyterian Church, Blue Bird Circle, Colonneh Club, River Oaks Country Club and the Petroleum Club of Houston. She was preceded in death by her husband George and sister Eleanor (Mrs. James Beasley).
Mrs. Shipley is survived by her son, George Corless Shipley and wife, Donna, of Austin; brother, Robert J. Corless and wife, Ellen, of Wellesley, MA; grandsons, George W. The family is particularly grateful to Florence's niece, Irene MacAfee, the nursing staff of the Hallmark and her friend and longtime caretaker, Mary Gray, for their support during an extended illness. We would also like to thank Dr. James Willerson.
A celebration of Mrs. Shipley's life is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 5th of January in the chapel of The Hallmark, 4718 Hallmark Drive in Houston, where the Rev. Dr. Joseph McKechnie, Senior Pastor of Arbor Pointe Church in Jefferson, GA., is to officiate.
Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests contributions be directed to the Championship Heart Foundation, 9442 Capital of Texas Highway N, Arboretum Plaza One, Ste. 500, Austin, TX, 78759.
