Born Bertha LaFay to Jesse and Fannie Elizabeth (Hardy) LaFave on Feb 12, 1909 in Almy, Wyoming. One of 10 children born of this union. The family settled in Salt Lake City, UT. Though named Bertha at birth, her siblings called her Bert or Bud, and her friends called her Bonnie. Anyone calling her Bertha was someone who didn't know her.
She married Roy Clifton Coley in 1931, giving birth to their daughter, Betty Lou, on July 13, 1932. Roy deserted the family in 1933, so she moved herself and her daughter to Los Angeles to make a better life for them. In 1947 she married Gilbert "Jack" Colton and stayed in that relationship until his death in 1975.
Grandmas greatest loves were her family (especially her one and only grandson), bowling, painting, her rose bushes, cooking, and family picnics and barbeques. She also had an old fat cat named Smokey who ruled the roost and Grandma! (None of the grandkids liked that cat!)
Grandma was origonally interred at Green Hills Memorial Park, San Pedro, CA, but we disinterred and reinterred at Inglewood Memorial Park, Inglewood, CA, upon the death of her daughter. Her daughter was buried with her husband and Grandma was buried in a plot approx. 5 feet away (we got lucky!).
Rest In Peace, Grandma. Loving you forever!
