Thomas was from Limerick, Ireland. He was on board the Titanic as one of the 167 stokers and firemen, a section of the ship's crew which had a very poor survival rate. The Mackay-Bennett search vessel recovered his body from the Atlantic and he was buried on 8 May 1912. Mount Olivet Cemetery was the burial place chosen for him because he had been identified as a Catholic due to the crucifix that was found in his pocketbook. He was 26 years old.
