IRONTON TRUBUNE SUNDAY, JANUARY 12,1941
Fred Small, who would have been 96 years old on February 1, died suddenly Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the home of his daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Fred Leffingwell of Aid. He had resided there since the death of his wife in 1938. Prior to that time they had lived at 1011 Center Street.
He was born in Pittsburg, Feb. 1, 1845, coming to Lawrence County at the age of 13 years. He was united in marriage to Malinda Allison in 1870 and they established their home in Arabia and in Aid township. where he was associated for years with the late Jimmy Bradshaw. During later years he and his wife resided in Ironton. Twelve children were born to this union. Five preceded the father in death but seven survive: Mrs. Lucinda Crabtree of Ironton, Mrs. Mary Kimble of Wheeling, Robert of Pedro, John of Aid, Mrs. Emma Miller of Marion, Mrs. Maggie Eaches of Richmond, O. and Mrs. Grace Leffingwell of Aid. Also surviving are one half-sister, Mrs. Mary Ralph of Columbus and one half-brother, Bill Mayberry of Gallipolis.
Mr. Small was an ardent christian, a jovial, intellectual companion and will be missed by many friends. He had been a member of the Ironton Reorganized Latter Day Saints church since 1892.
