Joanna Anderson Dart, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2017 under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

Joanna was born on March 16, 1928 in Wayne County, Georgia to the late James Tillman and Mamie Aspinwall Anderson. She attended Empire Elementary School, graduated from Jesup High School and attended Douglas College. After college, Joanna taught for many years at the Empire Elementary School and was the last surviving teacher of that era. She married George Dart in April of 1950 and lived a very unique and interesting life as a military wife and mother. She made a wonderful home for her family in numerous places all over the world. Joanna was a communicant of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she loved helping with decorations and food planning. In addition to her parents, her son, James Dart; two sisters, Edwina Davis and Robbie Lee Howard and two brothers, Lenox Anderson and Franklin Anderson preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-seven years, George Dart of Jesup; a daughter and son-in-law, Georganna and Ron Brooks of Jesup; granddaughter, Mamie Jacqueline Brooks of Hinesville; two great grandchildren, Dede Rhoden and Hunter Rhoden of Ludowici; sister Betty Grace Rossman of Dublin, GA; two brothers, James Anderson and wife, Chris of Cherryhill, NC and Turner Anderson and wife, Shirley of Jesup and four special caregivers, Melissa Wolfe, Lisa Bagley, Lynn Herndon and Debbie Owens. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 Monday, October 9, 2017 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Dee Shaffer, the Reverend Steve Larson and Deacon Marty Meuschke officiating.

Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Albert Howard, Marshall Howard, Kyle McCrary, Hunter McCrary, Ellis Anderson and Walter Dart.
