BELOVED CITIZEN FALLS INTO SLEEP
Funeral of J. T. Ellis Will Be Held at Fannin This Afternoon
J. T. Ellis, native Mississippian and lifelong resident of Rankin and Hinds counties, died about 6 o:lock last evening at the home on Winter street. Mr. Ellis had been in poor health for several month, but few of his countless friends knew his condition was so serious and the news of his death came as a shock and caused universal sorrow and regret.
Mr. Ellis, a son of the late Jesse Ellis, long time citizen of Rankin county, was very widely known in that county, was held in the highest respect and esteem, and was close in the affections of all who knew him. A Christian gentleman of the highest type, he possessed many fine traits of character; not the least outstanding of these being his love and friendship for growing boys, many of whom he helped along the path of life in their earlier and later years. They sought his advice, they counseled with him in business affairs, and they looked up to him as another father. Many of Jackson's business men whom he had befriended in their boyhood, will gather around his bier today, and mingle their ters with those of his own children.
Brief Funeral Services will be held at 1 o'clock this Sunday afternoon, at the home, 635 Winter street, with Rev. Tom Tomlinson, his pastor, officiating. The body will be taken overland by the funeral cortege, and the services will be concluded there, with interment in the old Fannin cemetery.
The following old and intimate friends of Mr. Ellis will pay their last sad tribute of love and sorrow, by their-service as pallbearers:
Hugh Washburn, J. R. Manning, James Lowe, J. H. Adams, D. Holland, N. E. Brown, E. L. Starr and Mr. Pearson.
Mr. Ellis .was born at West Point 74 years ago. In his childhood he removed with his family to Smith county and soon thereafter to Fannin, Rankin county, where he spent nearly all his life, removing to Jackson 1911. On December 29 1874, he married Miss Parilee Rhodes of Rankin county, and she survives, with five sons and one daughter, these being Jesse L. Ellis of Clinton, Ill, Henry Ellis of Dallas, Texas, and A. G. Ellis, L. D. Ellis, J. N. Ellis and Mrs. J. G. Wirtz, all of Jackson. He leave also to mourn his going one sister, Mrs. Tom Brame of Macon, and a number of grandchildren, besides scores of friends in Jackson and in Rankin county.
Mr. Ellis was a member of the Baptist church, and during his long period of residence at Fannin was an active and diligent worker for the Lord and an active and enthusiastic member of the Masonic lodge of that place.
