Mrs. Josie Burkey, 76 of 1238 Vermont, (Quincy,Il) died Wednesday Sept. 24, 1969 at 3:11 PM in Blessing Hospital where she had been a patient since Sept. 7.

Mrs. Burkey was born February 14, 1893 in Fairmont Twp., Pike County , Illinois, a daughter of Warren and Cora Moore Meservey. She married Wilson Burkey Sept. 12, 1912. He died April 4, 1942. She had resided in Quincy for 46 years and was a seamstress working in her home. She was a former member of the Buckhorn Baptist Church, (Brown County, Illinois). And attended the First Union Congregational church in Quincy.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Winnifred Brown of Quincy, a son Gerald M. Burkey of Quincy: Five sisters, Mrs. Oral B (Nina) Mullen of Chillicothe, Illinois, Mrs. Guy A (Vera) Nichols and Mrs. Carl (Corrine) McCormick of Beloit, Wisconsin, Mrs. A. R. (Clara) Human of Chjillicothe, Missouri, and Mrs. E. E. (Irene) Merriott of Trenton, Missouri.; four brothers Marshall Meservey of Chula, Missouri. Lozell and Delbert of Trenton, Missouri and Eldon of Browning, Missouri. Two Grandchildren Alan Burkey and Mrs Brent (Kathryn) Boden of Quincy, and a Great Grandson Donald Boden of Quincy. She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 PM in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Dr. Jonathan Story will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
