Ivan L. Bissell Passes Away

Funeral services for Ivan L. Bissell, 75, of Corning were held Monday, October 10, 1988 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Corning. Mr. Bissell passed away October 7 at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston after a long illness.

Officiating at the service were Fathers John Bertogli, Fred Reischl, and Michael Bruner. Music was provided by Marian Amdor, vocalist, and Theresa Cruise, organist. Casketbearers were Mike Bagby, Jared Bagby, Dan Bissell, Curtis Bagby, Kent Johnson, Kenny Driskell, and Austin Gallion. Serving as acolytes were Jason Green, cross bearers, Pat Boswell and Chris Boswell. Interment was in the St. Timothy Cemetery at Reno. The Coen-Beatty Funeral Home of Corning was in charge of arrangements.

Ivan L. Bissell, son of Alva and Pearl Morgan Bissell was born March 13, 1913 near Mutual, Oklahoma.

He moved with his family to a farm north of Massena, Iowa when he was 3 years old. In 1929 they moved to a farm south of Massena in Victoria Township.

He graduated from Massena High School in 1931 and in 1936 moved to Adams County to a farm near Prescott.

On April 8, 1939 Ivan was united in marriage with Margaret Elizabeth Cullen in the Rectory of St. Timothy Church, Reno. Three children were born to this union.

They began their married life on the farm of his parents where he had farmed the three preceding years. In 1943 they moved to a farm near Mercer Center where they farmed until Ivan's health forced his retirement. He was a farmer all his life and his greatest joy was working the land and caring for livestock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Claude, Ansel, and Huber; two sisters, Esther Casteel, and Edna Scott and an infant grandson, Tommy Bagby.

Ivan is survived by his wife Margaret of Corning, his children, Denny and his wife, Darlene of Joplin, Missouri, Patty Bagby and her husband, Jim of Maryville, Missouri, and Rita Wilcox and her husband, Rick of St. Louis, Missouri; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond and his wife, Theda of Prescott; four sisters, Alma Schrader and her husband George of Lenox, Florence James and Cleda Paul and her husband, Claude, all of Corning and Iada McKee of Massena; Kenneth Bissell of Cromwell, a nephew who was reared in the Ivan Bissell home, several other nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
