Chistiann Bender was the daughter of Henry Bender and Susannah Moll. She married George Hughes of Wayne County, Ohio, in 1849. They had two children: Argale and Wesley Hughes.
After George's death, she married Peter Shively in 1861, in Indiana. Christiann and Peter had three children: Andrew Jackson, Ida May, and Ellen/Ella Jane. They came to the Litchfield area in the late 1860s. They farmed in the northwestern part of the county. Peter died in 1872 and is buried in Potter's Field outside the east fence of Elmwood Cemetery.
On November 8, 1884, Christiann was married for a third time to George W. Etter. By 1900 they were living apart and Christann was using the last name of Shively. It is unknown if they ever divorced. George died on June 16, 1916 in East Fork Twp, Montgomery Co., Illinois.
