Fulton - Joseph L. "Joe" Farrar, 87, died Nov. 4, 2008, at Dogwood Plantation Assisted Living in Fulton. He was born June 1, 1921, in Itawamba County, the son of Trannie and Salley Booker Farrar. He lived his entire life in the Tilden community. He was a devoted member of the Union Grove Baptist Church, where he was deacon, teacher and Sunday School superintendent. He was a Mason with 65 years of service.

He was a graduate of the Itawamba Agricultural High School's Class of 1941. As a World War II veteran, he served his country in Europe from 1944 to 1946. He worked for Otis Moore Chevrolet, Itawamba Manufacturing and retired from Mueller Brass after many years of service.

On Nov. 1, 1941, he married the former Joyce Wheeler, who died Aug. 6, 2006. They were devoted to one another, their community, their church and their family. Yard work and gardening were their passion, and in their younger days they enjoyed water skiing and boating.

Services were Nov. 6 at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with burial in Itawamba Memorial Gardens.

Survivors included many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Sam, Elmo and Doc Farrar.
