Henry Boeck who lives about eight miles northwest of Avoca died Sunday of heart failure, aged 73 years. The funeral was held Tuesday and his remains were laid to rest in the Avoca cemetery, followed there by a large concourse of neighbors and friends.

Henry Boeck died suddenly Sunday forenoon at his home about six miles northeast of Shelby. Mr. Berg (Boeck) after breakfast went to feed his hogs and upon returning to the house, complained of not feeling well and went to bed and died in about half an hour.

Mr. Boeck was born June 14th, 1836 at Holstein, Germany. Fifty-five years ago he immigrated to America and made his home near Davenport where he was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Scheel. At the beginning of the Civil War, being a citizen of our country was called by Gov. Kirkwood of Iowa, to the front. He belonged to Co. E 2nd Iowa Inf. At the close of a successful war he was among those that were spared to return to their dear ones. Eleven years ago his wife died leaving him with eight children. He was known as an affectionate father, good neighbor and has a wide circle of friends. Death being of heart failure came sudden. Mr. Boeck was 73 years, 1 month and 17 days of age. Funeral services were held at the home conducted by Rev. Albert Dettmann. Interment in the Avoca cemetery.
