Nancy Jane Crandall was born in Champion, New York to Sophia (Hazzard) and Doran Crandall on January 18, 1843. She married Marcus McNitt on April 13, 1865 in Ovid Township. Moving from Indiana to Branch County, the family lived on Behnke Road in Ovid Township. Family records say "they probably lived west of Grubb Cemetery in a house on a hill near Grubb School." She died of cancer on December 12, 1910 in Batavia Township.
