Russell Joseph Free, 84, of Lucasville, died Saturday, November 5, 2011, at SOMC Hospice.
He was born Sept. 6, 1927, in Rushtown, Ohio, a son of the late Lafe and Maude Wilson Free.
Russell was a former Taylor Stone employee and a retired home improvement business owner. Russell was a member of the Pleasant Valley Branch of the Community of Christ, deacon and teacher in the priesthood. Russell was a happy go lucky fella who was very friendly and never knew a stranger.
He is survived by one son, Ricky (Sandy) Free of Lucasville; and one daughter Martha (Ron) Ramsey of Florence, Arizona; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers; Roger Free of Kentucky, Lafe Free Jr. of Lucasville, and David Free of McDermott; three sisters Martha Sue Jackson of Marysville, Rosemary Phipps of Columbus, and Louise O’Dell of Tallahassee, Florida.
He was also preceded in death by his wife Cora Faye Crabtree Free, July 19, 2007; and three brothers Charles, Robert, and Johnny Free.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at the Pleasant Valley Branch of the Community of Christ with Doug Altman, Connie Altman, and Alvin Breech officiating. Burial will follow in Rushtown Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville and for one hour prior to the funeral Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Valley Branch of the Community of Christ c/o Ruth Charles, 39 Meadow Lane, Lucasville, OH 45648.
