ST. CHARLES -- The funeral for Cyril Dale Persons will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Berea Moravian Church in rural St. Charles with the Rev. John Wallace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Persons, 82, of St. Charles, a retired area farmer, died Tuesday (April 1, 1997) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Born Sept. 27, 1914, on the family farm east of St. Charles, he graduated from St. Charles High school in 1933 and attended Taylor University in Upland, Ind., two years. On June 9, 1939, he married Elizabeth Michel at Northfield Moravian Church. They moved into St. Charles in 1963 and retired from farming in the 1980's. Mr. Persons was a dairy and grain farmer all his working life. He served on the Rochester Milk Producers Board and served two terms on the St. Charles School board. A lifelong member of Berea Moravian Church, he served on the church board and on a number of committees. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid sports fan.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth of Northfield and Merlin of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; a daughter, Shirley Hunt of Fountain Valley, Calif.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, the Rev. Milton of Columbia City, Ind.; and two sisters, Edith Korpi of Manitowoc, Wis., and Grace Gohdes of Florida. He was preceded in death by a brother, an infant sister and an infant granddaughter.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 9p.m. Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes - St. Charles Chapel and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
