Was an alcoholic. Was jailed as suspect in murder of his wife, Estelle. Elmer and Estelle were dinner guests of an M. W. Trivett. Estelle was killed by a shotgun blast at close range. Elmer Dake and Trivett were held temporarily as suspects in the murder. The local Ford City, California newspaper stated the men were in a "drunken stupor" and
denied hearing any shots or struggle. There were signs of a struggle and both men were "partially clothed" when law enforcment officers arrived. Elmer said he was asleep at the time of the death. Elmer was released and never tried for the murder. Elmer was said to be the favorite brother of Gertie Dake.
Said to have been murdered in her bed. Body found by husband Elmer "Jack" Dake. Never solved. Died in Ford City, CA. She and Jack moved to Taft, CA in 1912.
