Mr. Johnny Alan Burkett, Sr., age 66, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Monday morning, January 23, 2012 at his home. Alan was born November 15, 1945 in Dalton, Georgia, a son of the late Fletcher James Burkett, Sr. and Pauline Camp Burkett. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph, Baxter, Jimmy "Boone Dog", Michael and F.J. Burkett, Jr., sisters, Betty Quarles, Vivian Lovain, Eunice Slaten and Lydia Mae Ellis.
Alan was a carpet installer by trade and at one time owned Alan's Carpet Services.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty years, Deloris "Dolly" Duke Burkett of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Bernice Gravely and Martin Caldwell; sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny Alan, Jr. and Tammy Burkett, Chris "Bubba" and Regina Camp, Fletcher James, III, and Tiffany Burkett; grandchildren, Megan, Blake, Brody, Gracie and Zayden Burkett, Jaylon Hile and Kira Perkins; great-grandchild, Nevaeh Burkett; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Connie Burkett; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and James Leonard, Pat and Hansel Pierce, Mary and James Houston, Donna and Rick Long; special friends, Bobby Cartledge and Hugh Teems; several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Johnny Alan Burkett, Sr. will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with Reverend Rodney Kennedy and Reverend Johnny Pratt officiating. In will be laid to rest at the Colonial Hills Memorial Park Cemetery with his close family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning until the funeral hour.
