GIRARD—Donald E. "Hawk" Hawkins, 76, of Girard, died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 1995 at his residence.
He was born Aug. 27, 1918 at South Springfield, Mo., to Cletis and Fannie Foust Hawkins. He grew up and attended schools in Greenfield, Mo.
He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II from June 17, 1942 until Nov. 20, 1945. Mr. Hawkins, who later moved to Farlington, worked as a painter and decorator and was also police chief in Girard for a number of years.
He married Ruby Cram, June 15, 1953 at Crown Point, Ind. They made their home in Auburn, Maine from 1954 until 1962, when they moved to the Girard and Farlington areas.
He was a former Boy Scout leader and a member of Scouting's "Order of the Arrow." He was a member of the Steven Bennefield Post No. 7479, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and the Girard Masonic Lodge No. 93, AF & AM.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Howard E. Hawkins of Webb City, Mo.; four daughters, Cheryl A. McGown of Pittsburg, Donna J. Mitchell and Ruby Laura Klusman of Girard and Margaret A. Lloyd of West Mineral; a brother, Kenneth Hawkins of Kansas City, Mo.; seven sisters, Beatrice Datson of Klamath Falls, Ore., Virginia Boggs of Louisiana, Mo., Wanda Griffin and Carol Vinoya of Kansas City, Mo., Marvella Golden of GrainValley, Mo., Wanda Mingori of Chicopee and Imogene Jones; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Girard Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Cordray officiating. Friends may call at their convenience tonight at the family home, 109 S. Cherokee in Girard. Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard.
