Her untiring care of and complete devotion to her stepfather, Robert L. Davidson, with whom she lived following the early death of her mother, and down to his death in 1926 was an outstanding example of her spirit. Mrs. Caney, who was the daughter of Linus and Sabrina Jeanette (Pierce) Barnum, was born in the town of Middlefield January 5, 1860,and practically all her life was spent in Cooperstown. She was united in marriage June 30, 1887, with Irving Caney of Richfield Springs whose death occurred in January 1911. She was an active and devoted member of the Universalist Church from childhood. The surviving members of the immediate family are a daughter, Mrs. Donald S. Root, of Bronxville; two sons, Linus Barnum of Buffalo, son of a former marriage, and Robert D. Caney of Huntington, W. Va., and one brother, Linus M. Barnum of Cooperstown, to all of whom the sincere sympathy of the entire community is extended. The funeral, which was private, was held at the home of her brother, Linus M. Barnum, at No. 58 Chestnut street, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Charles Kramer of Bridgeport, Conn., a former pastor, officiating, and burial was made at Lakewood Cemetery. (The Otsego Farmer, Friday, August 1, 1930)
