AGED PIONEER PASSES AWAY

Alexander Trinkle died at his home in Lake View Sunday evening at 9 o'clock, December 23 after an illnes of two weeks duration.

His death was not all together unexpected. But little hope of his recovery was given out by his physician, nurse and friends, after he took to his bed. The ailment which was his chief affliction was cirrhosis of the liver or hardening of the organ. Had he lived to April 2, 1907, his years could be counted as four score and 3 - more than the alloted years of man in this vale of tears.

A. Trinkle was born in Crawford county, Indiana, April 14, 1824. He was a son of Adam Trinkle a native of Germany and his mother was of Irish birth. They moved to Clay county, Illinois, where his father and mother both died. They had reared a family of ten children, three boys and seven girls. Decedent spent the first years of his life in his native state, moving to Clay county, Illinois, with his parents when quite a lad.

It was here that he first met Miss Margaret Riley, a native of Wayne county, Illinois, to whom he was united in marriage, when 24 years old. To this union four children was born, three daughters and one son. The son died in infancy and two of the daughters died aged six and seventeen. Mrs. J.W. Maynard of Lake View, being his only surviving child.

Decedent moved to Iowa in 1866, settling in Milford township, Crawford county, when that township contained only seven voters, and there was not a house between his place and Deloit. He erected the first log cabin in that section and saw real pioneer life.

When the C. & N.W. Railway was built through Crawford county, and towns Westside and Vail were laid out he engaged in the stock buying business and shipped the first car load of stock from those stations. His excellent judgement made him a very successful buyer snd his honesty made him friends and won him popularity, which resulted in a demand for him to serve the public as a member of the county board, and was elected county supervisor.

Mr. Trinkle joined the Masonic Lodge at Grant City, when the lodge there was the only one in this part of the state. Later when a lodge was organized at Denison he became a member there and when he moved to Lake View twelve years ago he became a member here. His life in Lake View was that of retirement, having a sufficiency of this worlds goods for his needs.

Funeral services were held on Christmas Day at 2 p.m. in the Masonic lodge room, which was attended by masons from Wall Lake, Vail, Westside and Denison. Interment took place in the Wall Lake cemetery, where he was laid to rest by the side of his wife, who preceded him ten years.

Besides a daughter, Mrs. J.W. Maynard of Lake View, two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Hall of Odebolt and Mrs. Angeline Williams of Deloit, survive him and mourn the loss of a father and brother.
