Marguerite Harrison McCampbell, an artist who returned to painting after rearing eight children, passed on Feb. 9, 2011 at St. Mary's Medical Center.

She was 89.

A water colorist who painted to capture beauty on paper, she continued to study water color painting through last fall at Fountain City Art Center.

She rarely sold her paintings, preferring to give them to family members or friends or to display them in her home.

She enjoyed walking and hiking the Smoky Mountains, especially Cades Cove; wildflowers, birds, current events, reading and working the daily crossword, which she called her "brain aerobics."

Marguerite was retired as secretary of the Knoxville Bar Association's Lawyer Referral Service.

A native of Knoxville, she was a graduate of Knoxville Catholic High School and Knoxville Business College and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

She was married to Joe S. McCampbell, who passed on in 2000. They were "Mother and Daddy" to their children and "Mama Marg and Papa Joe" to their grandchildren.

She is survived by her sisters, Loretta H. McKinnon, Houston; and Bernadette H. McMillan, Knoxville; her children, Candy McCampbell, Nashville; Joe S. McCampbell Jr. (Vicki), Knoxville; Harrison McCampbell (Linda), Brentwood.; Cindy Cross (Tom), Choteau, MT.; Martha Lou McCampbell, Townsend.; Rosemary McCampbell, Seymour; James McCampbell (Jennifer), Knoxville; Lee Smith (Derrick), Danville, VA.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur C. and Marie DeMattos Harrison; a half-brother, Pierce Peck; brother, Elmer Harrison; sister, Mary Frances Harrison; and grandson, Daniel J. Hughes.

She is to be cremated, as she wanted.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be Monday, February 14, 2011 at 2 PM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Ronald Franco officiating. A reception will be held immediately following services.
