Sgt Andrew Bergin Braddy, 3rd Army, 167th Engineer Combat Battalion, US Army, of Stephens County, Texas was the son of Lewis Andrew and Rosiline May Smith Braddy. He was born in Eliasville, Texas on April 12, 1924. He graduated from the High School there in 1940.
Near the beginning of the war he enlisted in the Army in April of 1942 at Graham, Texas. He was inducted into service into at Mineral Wells and trained at Camp McClain, Mississippi. Then combat training at Louisiana. He then went overseas in May of 1943. He was involved in "the Belgian Push" at "The Moselle River Bridgehead" so that US Forces could cross the river into Nazi territory. Sgt Braddy was wounded in a minefield explosion and died nearby in the town of Loraine France. He is survived by his parents Lewis and Rosiline Smith Braddy, 3 brothers William, Tommy and Clovis Braddy all of Monahans, and a sister Mrs Della May (Braddy)Smith of Denton. Also surviving are his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Smith of Bomham and grandmother Mrs. Lavinia Braddy of Leonard. His body returned from the War on Wednesday May 6th, and lied in state at the Satterwhite Funeral Home until the day of burial. Services were held on Friday May 8th at the Methodist Church with Rev. R. V. Bane officiating. Pallbearers were his former schoolmates; Pharris Cantrell, E. O. Langford, Buddy Collins, Charles Green, Jack Lovinggood, and Gilbert Reed.
