David S. Thompson Sr., 76, of Waverly, formerly of this city, died at 11:05 o'clock Saturday night, in Passavant Hospital at Jacksonville. He had been in ill health for one year, and was a hospital patient three days.
Mr. Thompson was born October 10, 1896, at Cornell, a son of Edgar E. and Sarah Catherine Heckman Thompson. On August 3, 1945, he was married at Springfield to Helen Mallonee. He had resided at Waverly for one year, moving there from Springfield. In 1968, he retired from the C&IM Railroad Company, where he had been employed as a carman. He was a member of the Railroad Trainmen.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his widow, a son, Albert Thompson, Taylorville; a stepson, Earl McMillen, Waverly; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, in the Connolly Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Esterline, assistant pastor of the Cavalry Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 until 9 o'clock tonight at the funeral home.
