Folk Figure. Born on the Baleric Island of Menorca, Spain, on December 15, 1889, as Joan Riudavets Moll, he was the oldest living person in the world at the time of his death. Riudavets was recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest man in the world in September 2003 when his birthdate was authenticated after the death of the previous record holder. Riudavets had spent his life working as a cobbler, before retiring about 50 years ago, and attributed his long life to his Mediterranean diet of tomatoes, olive oil, and fish.
