MERCEDES - Carmen Peña, born August 30, 1949, was called to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 8, 2012.She is preceded in death by both of her parents, Benito & Maria de Jesus Castañeda and her brother, Guadalupe "Papo" Castañeda.She will always be remembered as a kind and fun loving person who always lived life to the fullest. Carmen leaves behind a beautiful family and wonderful friends who will forever remember great times and memories they shared. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Ruben Andres Peña, Sr., daughter, Deborah Jean Cano (Humberto), and son, Ruben Andres Peña, Jr. (Jessica); Also surviving her are 8 grandchildren: Humberto III, Marco Andres, Diego Alejandro, Nicholas Aaron, Jenna Ann, Alexa Renee, Monique Janae, and Ruben Jose. Carmen's brothers and sisters include: Benito Castañeda (Rosemary), Emma Yaws (Thomas), Margarita Perez (Mauricio), Rosita Duarte (Mario), Ernesto Castañeda (Sarah), Delia Saenz (Rosendo), Dalia Cortez (Arnold), and sister-in-law Nelda Medina.
Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Rio Life Community Church in Mercedes, interment will follow at Mercedes Memorial Restlawn. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.
