Altamese (O'Neal) Smith, 85, of 69 Andrew St., departed this life on Monday, February 6, 2012. Born and educated in Orlando, FL, she was the fifth child of the late Irvin and Jeanner O'Neal. Pre-deceased by her husband, Frederick T. Smith, and two children, Clarence Walthour and Frederick Smith Jr., she is survived by two children, Jean Holley of Portland, CT, and James Smith (and Gail) of Atlanta, GA; a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Smith of Springfield,MA; four sisters, Mollie Lackey of Philadelphia, PA, Betty O'Neal of Springfield, and Lenore (and William) Golden and Shirley Vance, both of Orlando; a sister-in-law, Patricia O'Neal of Springfield; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. The calling hour is noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Harrell Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m., with burial in Springfield Cemetery. The family sincerely thanks Baystate Hospice for their care and compassion.
