"Oscar Henry Chase of Elk Creek, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Merton Stilwell, at Colliers Monday morning. Death was due to hardening of the arteries. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon with a prayer service at the Stilwell home at 1 o'clock, followed by services in the Elk Creek church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. C. B. Henry of Portlandville officiated. Burial at Elk Creek cemetery. Oscar Henry Chase, son of the late Harris [sic] and Juila (Groff) Chase, was born in the town of Westford, December 6, 1854. On December 20, 1877 he was united in marriage with Estella Perry of Elk Creek. Their entire married life was spent in that vicinity with the exception of a few years on a farm near Middlefield. He is survived by his wife, who has been an invalid for many years, and the daughter above mentioned; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Patrick, Mrs. Charles Milks and Mrs. R. F. Hubbard, all residing in Elk Creek; one brother, G. W. Chase of Schenevus and several nieces and nephews. He was a man well and favorably known and enjoyed a large circle of friends who will regret his death. He was a member of the Elk Creek church and had been a member of the board for many years."
