She was a member of First Baptist Church, Tioga and was very involved in WMU and children's programs as well as being the church clerk for 15 years. She retired as manager of the Valex Credit Union and was a member of the Dogwood Trails Garden Club where she served as president for four years. Mrs. Barton was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, passionate gardener and a baker extraordinaire .
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Jesse E. Barton; parents, Arthur Lee & Pearl Buckner White; brothers, Miles Leonard White, Austin N. White, and Robert L. White.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Glenda Faye Anthony & husband Elwyn and Sharon Gayle Thompson & husband Lyle; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; numerous nephews.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m.Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at the chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville, with Dr. George Higgins and Reverend Tim Hisaw officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park, Pineville, under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Pineville.
Visitation will be Monday, February 13, 2012, at Hixson Brothers, Pineville, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and from 8:00 a.m. until service time Tuesday. The family would like to thank the nurse, sitters, and staff of the Marigold House for their loving care of Miss Ila.
