Born in Pennsylvania to James Wilson and Myrla Meriam (Beatty) Milner Sr. , part of a very large family, he joined the U.S. Marines in 1923. He was discharged at Great Lakes Nav Sta. and soon thereafter met his wife, to whom he was married for 64 years before her passing. He moved to Princeton KY just before WW II and then to Evansville, IN, to help in the war effort at Republic Aviation.
