Margie was born in Aiken, but was a lifelong resident of Columbia. She graduated with honors from both Aiken High School and Winthrop College and received her master's degree from Rutgers University.
Margie was a devoted state employee, having worked in the library system 40+ years. Her passion was in planning and designing library buildings with some of South Carolina's most noted architects. She received many acknowledgements and awards for her accomplishments in this area.
She enjoyed cooking, especially baking cakes, and loved celebrating all holidays, in particular Christmas. She took much pride and pleasure in giving all the latest and best toys and most stylish clothing to her niece and nephews when they were small.
Margie's survivors include two sisters, Janice Herron and Sandra (Rick) Herron Walsh; one niece, Erika Walsh; and three nephews, Douglas Keller, John Keller and Brian Walsh; brother-in-law, Bill Keller; and her very special caregiver, Cora Griswold.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Wyman "Bunk" Herron, and her sister, Patricia Keller.
Her greatest accomplishment in life was that of a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was always there for her family and friends. She leaves a legacy of powerful love for all those left behind.
The family would like to express their love and appreciation for all of the support, friendship and love given by Regency Hospice.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Herron officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens.
