Roy E. Reid, 80, of N. Wickham Avenue, Princeton, formerly of Welch, died Thursday evening, December 15, 2011 at Carilion-Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. Born August 22, 1931, in Mullens, he was the son of the late Elmer Newton Reid and Ida Catherine Brooks Reid. Roy was a graduate of Welch High School and McDowell VoTech Center. For several years, Roy worked in the Warehouse for Cannelton Coal Company at Superior and had retired from the McDowell County Board of Education as a cabinet maker. Roy enjoyed life, he loved woodworking and nature, especially watching and studying birds. Roy was a member of the Pentecost Chapel of Praise. He was a member of the McDowell Masonic Lodge #112 of Welch and the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple of Charleston. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Nancy Jane Davidson Reid. His only sibling, Dora Basham & her husband Alex of Morgan Hill CA. A service of remembrance will be held 5:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Pentecost Chapel of Praise on North Wickham Avenue in Princeton with Pastor Larry White officiating. The family has honored Roy's request, his body has been cremated and inurnment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
