Eddie Coleman was born March 5, 1916 to Ella Harris and Matthew Coleman in Greenwood, Louisiana. He was the eleventh of fourteen children. All of his siblings preceded him in death. He accepted Christ at an early age uniting with Starlight Baptist Church in Greenwood. He sang in the choir and Men's Choir.
Eddie attended Caddo Parish Public School System. He served in the United States Army.
He moved to Brawley, California and later to Oakland, California where he was employed by the Greyhound Bus Company. Eddie transferred to Fresno, California and united with Providence Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Reuben Scott. He loved the Lord and was very active and dedicated to his pastor and church.
Eddie met and married Lena (Godfrey) Coleman in 1968. She preceded him in death on October 25, 2001.
As Eddie's mother-in-law, Eunice Godfrey Tillman's, health began to fail, he and Lena moved to Dunnigan, California to care for her. Eddie had fellowshipped with Second Baptist Church of Woodland, California until his health began to fail.
On September 4, 2002, Eddie embarked upon new shores, one many of us can only anticipate with great expectations. With a smile and great peace, he joyfully met Jesus face to face.
In Heaven he is greeted by his devoted wife, Lena Godfrey Coleman, mother, father, three brothers, ten sisters, mother-in-law, Eunice Godfrey Tillman, and other family members who have gone on before.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his sister-in-law, Leana Poe, and nephew, Tony Albert, who cared for him during his long illness; other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pallbearers: Roosevelt Robinson, Tony Albert, George Wilson and Wayne Oliver
Honorary Pallbearers: Lonzy Armstrong, Randalo Raines, Willie Darrough and Joe D. Bolden
Arrangements entrusted to the care of Jesse E. Cooley, Jr. Funeral Service, Inc., 1830 South Fruit Avenue, Fresno, California.
