Peter Furman may be named for his maternal grandfather Peter Hallock.

The household of William Furman is enumerated in the 1790 census at Colchester, Town of Middleton, Montgomery Co., New York. The census count is 2-2-5, indicating there are two free white males under the age of 16 years. It is believed Peter Furman is one of the two young males.

Peter married Diadama HOLLIDAY in 1807 at Colchester, Delaware Co., New York where both families resided. It is believed Peter and his young family migrated to present-day Bradford Co., Pennsylvania, circa 1809.

Peter Furman is first listed on the 1814 tax rolls for Smithfield Township, Bradford County; his estate was valued at $11. In 1816, Peter purchased 105 acres of Columbia Township land from his father. In 1817, Peter is listed on the Columbia Township tax rolls as a tavern keeper.

Peter and Diadama's farm was located on the Austinville Road, a short distance northwest of Columbia Cross Roads. Soon after the death of Diadama, in 1853, son George Furman took over the operation of the family farm.

By 1860, Peter Furman has left his farm and is enumerated in the household of Silas Smith, in Sylvania Borough.

An entry in the 1865 diary of Edwin Benedict states "Old Peter Furman died today at Austinville." Peter's funeral was held in the Austinville school house.

Peter died aged about 83 years.
