Sallye Moore Abel of Memphis went to be with the Lord on April 26, 2011.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Burton B. Abel, her parents Fred H. Moore,Sr, and Jettie M. Moore, one sister, Mildred M. Boswell, four brothers, William O. Moore, Fred H. Moore, Jr., Henry B. Moore and Robert B. Moore.

She is survived by five brothers, David E. Moore (Dot) of Finger, TN, Aubrey Guy Moore (Dee) of Hixson, TN, Roy M. Moore (Alice) of Memphis, TN, Johnny F. Moore (Shirley) of Hixson, TN, and Jimmy D. Moore of Wolcott, CT. She also leaves seventeen nieces and nine nephews.

Mrs. Abel held various positions in Shelby County Government for over 20 years, including being the long time Executive Assistant in Probate Court for Judge Leonard D. Periotti and Judge Robert S. Benham.

She was well known for her civic activities including the Memphis Cotton Wives, Theater Memphis, Germantown Charity Horse Show, Nineteenth Century Club, and the Shelby County Animal Shelter.

She also served as a volunteer with the Shelby County Election Commission, and was a member of the Women's Republican Club, and the Eastwood Home and Garden Club. She was known in bridge club circles as an avid bridge player and competitor.

She was an active member of the Lindenwood Christian Church, and served in other related Christian endeavors.


The family will receive friends on Friday, April 29, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., also at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with Dr. Ron Buck of Lindenwood Christian Church officiating. Internment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of the Jewish Nursing Home for the loving care that was provided, and a deep gratitude of appreciation for her special caregivers, Ina Abel, Phyllis Boswell, and Cecelia Powers. In lieu of flowers, it is the family's wish for memorials to be sent to Hospice of Memphis, St Jude Hospital, or the Shelby County Human Society.
