A.D. was born and raised on a farm in Etowah, AL, and continuing farming after schooling until he was in a car that was wrecked in 1946, which made his right arm useless and impacted his speech and walking. He worked for a few years for his brother's dealership in Tullahoma, TN, but returned to partial farming in Aroney, AL. Later, he and his wife retired in Albertville, TN. A.D. was a strong and determined man, surving many health problems; and once, with one arm and a post hole digger, he fenced a 10-acre plot, by himself, digging and placing the posts and stringing the wire! A.D. and Opal married on January 9, 1936, had one son, Jimmy Ronald, and celebrated 66 years of marriage before Opal died in 2002.
