CEDAR RAPIDS -- Ida J. Auten, 91, of Fullerton, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday at Genoa. (Service information omitted here)
Mrs. Auten was born Oct. 19, 1894, on a farm along Plum Creek southeast of Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John J. and Eileen Russell Cox. When she was 3 1/2, they moved to Greeley County near Wolbach, where she received her education in rural schools. After completing her education she was a housekeeper for Dr. Dewey in Primrose.
She married Charlie J. Auten on Jan. 20, 1915 at Wolbach. They lived in the Wolbach area until 1934, when they moved to Cedar Rapids and went into the trucking business. Mr. Auten died in July 1944. She moved to Columbus in 1956 and worked as a cook in several restaurants there, including the Night and Day Cafe, Ma's Diner and Adam's Cafe. In 1973, she moved to Genoa, and in 1982, she moved to Fullerton Manor. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include two sons, Gordon of Cedar Rapids and Howard of New York City; three sisters, Mrs. Chris (Ada) Trautmans of Boise, Idaho, Corda Wagner of Atlanta, Ga., and Gladys Pierpont of Grand Island, 22 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, a sister and three brothers.
