Loraine Williams, a life-long resident of Centralia, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Dec. 3, 2010 at Providence Centralia Hospital. She was born to William and Alice (Wright) Ramser on Jan. 17, 1920 in Centralia. As a child, she belonged to Campfire Girls and loved to play baseball. We've been told that she would sneak out of the house when she was supposed to be practicing the piano to join in a neighborhood baseball game. Consequently, she didn't become proficient with the piano. She graduated from Centralia High School in 1938. Following graduation she worked in a paint store, for Woolworth's in Olympia, in a flower shop and for the census.

On June 1, 1941 she married J. LeRoy Williams. She was a devoted wife and mother and stayed at home until her daughters were raised except for a brief period when she worked for the yard office, sold tickets at the fair, and sold license tabs back when everyone bought their tabs in January. Mom was involved with all of our activities and was a Girl Scout Leader. As a scout leader, she took the troop on a hiking trip through the Olympics and on numerous camping trips to the beach and parks. During the summer, she bought all of the food for the week-long camps. She astonished the council with how she could stretch a dollar. She had a great influence on the young people with which she worked.

Mom was also an excellent seamstress. She sewed school clothes, formals, Ti Hi uniforms, Girls League outfits, nonette outfits and costumes for her daughters as well as for neighborhood children. Even the neighborhood boys came to mom to 'peg' their jeans when that was popular. Everything she sewed was done with precision. She also enjoyed knitting and needlepoint. Mom was also a very good friend to all and would do anything to help someone else. The door was always open and the coffee pot on for friends to drop by any time.

After our father retired, mom went to work for the Centralia Chamber of Commerce. When she was 57, she worked as a clerk and bookkeeper for the Lewis County Health Department. She retired at the age of 80 in 2000.

As an adult, mom was a member of the Girl Scouts, the Order of Eastern Star, the First Presbyterian Church, the Lewis County Historical Museum, the Winlock Historical Museum, and the Friends of Seminary Hill Natural Area, where she was the treasurer for over 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Lloyd Ramser, and two nephews, Wayne and Dean Galpin.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynette (Jim) Logue, Concord, CA and Leslie (Leon) Ewer, Rochester; her sister Betty Bredeson, Port Orchard; her grandchildren, Janene Logue, Puyallup; Jay (Stacey) Logue, Frisco, TX, Shevelle Mynatt, Bonney Lake and Shane Ewer, Renton; ten great grandchildren, and a great-great grandson as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Centralia at 11 a.m. on Dec. 11, 2010. A reception will follow at the Ewer home in Rochester. Arrangements are under the care of Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary in Centralia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or a charity of your choice.

Mom was loved by many and will be missed forever!
