Manuel Oquendo was born and raised in the Bronx in New York City. He was the second son of Ildefonso and Josephine Maria Oquendo. He was 20 years old and was killed on Oct. 31 1979. He got into a dispute with a young man who resided where he resided and had live for only 6 months. Manuel lived there with his new bride Iris and 6 month old son. Manuel was stab in the heart by one of two brothers and killed. His death was a shock to the entried community. He had 6 brothers and two sisters and was love by many. He loved to dance and pactice karate. His favorite movies were those of Bruce Lee. His long term dream was to vist his father Ildefonso Oquendo in Ponce, P.R. who had abandon his mother and siblings many years prior and had started a new family. He wanted to make something big of himself and then show up with his sister Merlyn at his fathers door. They both dream of the day they would see their father again, and of how proud they would both be, to be able to shine before their long lost dad. Sadly it was at his funeral (Manuel)s that the reunion accrued. Manuel was belove by his wife Iris and son Manuel Oquendo Jr. who now has a son and a daugther of his own.
