Joachim Ludwig Martin Nehls was born in Schorrentin, Mecklenberg, Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1867. He married Adeline Johanna Domrese in Chicago in 1870 it is reported. They first lived in Winona, Minnesota, and are on the Luthern Church Records there. They moved to St. Charles Missouri where their son William John Herman Nehls was born and then back to Wilson, Winona, Minnesota in 1876 where their daughter, our grandmother, Augusta Helena Hattie Nehls was born. They moved to St. John, Kansas in the late 1870's where their son William John Herman died at age 14 In the late 1890's they moved back to St.Charles where Joachim's brother Johann lived and died there in 1925. Joachim worked at St Joseph Hospital for many years. He is buried in the Luthern Cemetery in St. Charles. Adeline and he divorced in 1909 in St.Charles, Missouri.
