FLORIDA -- Sarah Belle Brown, 90, of 78 South St. in the Drury section of Florida, died Wednesday evening at North Adams Regional Hospital, where she was admitted Sept. 11.
Born in Florida on April 7, 1909, daughter of Jessie A. and Abbie M. Pelkey Gifford, she attended Florida Elementary School.
As a teen, Mrs. Brown delivered produce from Gifford Farm in Florida to North Adams by horse and wagon or sled. From 1942 until her retirement in 1971, she was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams.
She was a lifetime member of Florida Baptist Church, and enjoyed gardening, traveling, fishing and family gatherings.
Her husband, Harold E. Brown, whom she married Sept. 19, 1927, died June 16, 1977.
She leaves four sons, Harold C. Brown of Scotia, N.Y., Stanley L. Brown and Dwight F. Brown, both of Drury, and Edward J. Brown of East Longmeadow; three daughters, Mrs. Lorraine I. Moreau of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mrs. Elizabeth A. Long of Lisbon, Conn., and Mrs. Doris J. Lewis of Drury; a brother, Frank Gifford of Drury; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Rogers of Florida; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Sarah Belle Brown will beSaturday at 11at Florida Baptist Church. The Rev. Irving Mullette, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Florida Church Cemetery. Calling hours at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, North Adams, will be Friday from 5 to 8. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory be made to the Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Florida Baptist Church, the Florida Volunteer Fire Department or North Adams Regional Hospital through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247.
